Giveaway/Showcase: Katie Ganshert author of Wildflowers from Winter

Katie GanshertKatie Ganshert was born and raised in the Midwest, where she writes stories about finding faith and falling in love. When she’s not busy plotting her next novel, she enjoys watching romantic movies with her husband, playing make-believe with her wild-child of a son, and chatting with her girlfriends over bagels and coffee. She could talk books all day and is often spotted around town pushing a stroller, walking a dog, and reading—all at the same time. For more about Katie visit www.katieganshert.com.

Q&A

Q.  What inspires your writing?

A.  Oh, so many things! Music, whatever I’m reading in the Bible, people-watching (one of my favorite activities….I have to be careful not to turn into that weird girl who has a staring problem), driving, reading, news stories. Even sermons. Most people are listening to the pastor, reflecting on their faith and their relationship with Jesus. And I’m that odd writer who’s thinking, “This would be a great spiritual arc for my character!”

Q.  What is your favorite thing about being an author?

A.  It’s so hard to choose! I just feel so blessed that not only do I get to write stories, but I get to share these stories with readers. It’s only natural to want to share what we love with others. Being an author lets me do that. Hearing from those readers—that my story touched them or encouraged them in some way—is like the biggest, fattest, sweetest cherry on top.

Q.  What is the toughest part of being an author?

A.  Sitting my butt in the chair on those days when inspiration refuses to cooperate. Oh, and the terror. As amazing as sharing my work with others is, it’s also terrifying. The whole thing leaves me feeling incredibly vulnerable.

Q.  If you could not be author, what would you do/be?

A. Before I decided to write fulltime, I was a teacher. I really enjoyed it. At least if I can’t write, I could still teach writing. J

Q.  What would the story of your life be entitled?

A.  Work in Progress

Q.  What is your favorite book of all time?

A.  Too hard. Next question please. Okay, if I had to pick, I’d probably say….Goodnight Moon. Or maybe Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers.

Q.  Which character from ANY book are you most like?

A.  Maybe Elizabeth Bennett. Is that cheating though? I think the reason she’s such a beloved character is that SO many women see themselves in her.

Q.  What character from all of your book are you most like?

A. Probably Robin. I haven’t had to go through any of the things she’s gone through. But beneath the grief in Wildflowers from Winter, she’s a passionate woman who trusts easily. That would describe me well.

Q.  What is your favorite season?

A. Fall. Hands down. Love the crispy cleanness of the air. Love the colors. Love drinking hot cocoa at a football game. Love wearing a sweatshirt and jeans. After the activity of summer, it’s like the earth is tucking itself in for a long nap.

Q.  What inspired your book cover(s)?  Or what is your favorite book cover and why?

A. The art department at my publishing house is in charge of my book covers and I’m in love with both! If I had to pick a favorite, I’d probably say Wildflowers from Winter, only because it’s my first and that moment when I saw it for the first time was a very magical one.

Q.  Tell me something funny that happened while on a book tour or while promoting your book.

A.  Eesh, funny things happen to me all the time. But I am drawing a total blank right now. On the way to Minneapolis for a book signing, my husband and I were laughing hysterically in the car. I can’t remember about what, I just remember it was that stomach-hurting, tear-inducing kind of laughter. The best kind.

Q.  Are you working on something new?

A.  Right now I’m working on Wishing on Willows, which releases March 19, 2013 and tells Robin’s story, who is an important secondary character in Wildflowers.

Q.  Anything you want to say to followers of this blog or those that are just stopping by?

A.  Just that I love connecting with readers, so please don’t be afraid to say hi or find me on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, or my blog. Also, if you read and enjoy Wildflowers from Winter, I have a bunch of fun extras on my website.
