About THE ELIZAS

When debut novelist Eliza Fontaine is found at the bottom of a hotel pool, her family at first assumes that it’s just another failed suicide attempt. But Eliza swears she was pushed, and her rescuer is the only witness.

Desperate to find out who attacked her, Eliza takes it upon herself to investigate. But as the publication date for her novel draws closer, Eliza finds more questions than answers. Like why are her editor, agent, and family mixing up events from her novel with events from her life? Her novel is completely fictional—isn’t it?

The deeper Eliza goes into her investigation while struggling with memory loss, the closer her life starts to resemble her novel, until the line between reality and fiction starts to blur and she can no longer tell where her protagonist’s life ends and hers begins...

This book was a roller coaster. It had my nerves on edge the entire time. I was never sure what was reality or Eliza's unreliable memory or Eliza's misconceptions of events. Like Girl on the Train, this book had me off kilter the entire time, in the BEST possible way. I never knew what was around the corner, what was going to happen or how it all would end up. I loved the alternating chapters between Eliza and The Dots, it was clever and engaging. I felt for Eliza the entire time, no matter many crazy roads she lead me down. I wanted answers for her. I wanted to know the truth as badly as she did. Even the secondary characters were engaging...so many holders of secrets, truths and answers, but none of them giving them up very freely. You don't want to miss this book! It will leave you reeling!!!!

“Provocative… Eliza’s voice draws readers in, and her unreliable memory creates tension. Gillian Flynn fans will be satisfied.”
Publishers Weekly

“Bestselling author Shepard, of Pretty Little Liars fame, pays close attention to cinematic details, practically projecting Eliza’s descent into personal nightmare, where she cannot be certain of her own memories, onto a silver screen: Scenes are carefully framed, and a soundtrack even bubbles along. A delicious Southern California noir riddled with muddled identities and family secrets.”
Kirkus Reviews

—Colleen Hoover, #1 New York Times bestselling author

“In her first adult thriller, The Elizas, #1 New York Times bestselling author Sara Shepard crafts a clever and unpredictable page-turner that follows a young woman on a desperate search for answers. Thoroughly enjoyable!”

—Jamie Blynn, Us Weekly

“A dark, twisty labyrinth of a psychological thriller with a fascinating, complex protagonist whose growing paranoia kept me in constant suspense.”
—A.J. Banner, USA Today bestselling author of The Twilight Wife and The Good Neighbor

“A twisting, clever thriller with a smart, darkly funny, and totally unreliable narrator at its heart. I was rooting for the troubled, sharp-tongued Eliza, even as Shepard deftly blurred those very thin lines between lies and the truth, fact and fiction. A sizzler!”

“Sara Shepard dazzles with this spine-chilling thriller that blurs the lines of fact and fiction. Electric and smart with a witty protagonist readers won’t soon forget.”

I loved this book. This is a great story. I loved that it was so interesting and original. It was one of those books where I put myself into the position of the main character and I have to admit I was rattled. It was one of those stories that envelops the reader. You cannot help but take yourself into the life of the characters and feel what they all feel. Our lives intersect and no situation only affects one person and one person alone. This story captures love, family, life and everything in between! A delight!!!

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book is an emotional read. I found it to be so authentic and brilliant. There is truth and heart in this book. You can tell Nyhan has lived this story, she poured herself into it. She allows the reader to go on the journey with her, even though it was not always pretty. She wrote so authentically that you cannot help but feel emotionally connected to the characters, the story, the realness of all of it all brought together within the pages. Such a great book that left me with all the feels.

New York, 1879: After an epic snow storm ravages the city of Albany, Dr. Mary Sutter, a former Civil War surgeon, begins a search for two little girls, the daughters of close friends killed by the storm who have vanished without a trace. Mary’s mother and niece Elizabeth, who has been studying violin in Paris, return to Albany upon learning of the girls’ disappearance—but Elizabeth has another reason for wanting to come home, one she is not willing to reveal. Despite resistance from the community, who believe the girls to be dead, the family persists in their efforts to find the two sisters. When what happened to them is revealed, the uproar that ensues tears apart families, reputations, and even the social fabric of the city, exposing dark secrets about some of the most powerful of its citizens, and putting fragile loves and lives at great risk.

So happy to report that Schorr has done it again! She has written a book that both acts as a great way for returning readers to revisit old friends but also writes it in a way that a new reader can pick it up and enjoy her brilliant story without missing a beat. I love that there are aspects of the book I can find comfort in figuring out while still being very surprised and delighted throughout. It is this perfect balance that makes reading Schorr one of my favorite authors. I think she understands her readers on a deeper level. She gives the readers stories that feed their hearts. This is very deep story with many complex topics. It is one of those stories that you instantly know, starting on page one, will be a story you could get lost in. You also know that you will love it because Carr is a dependable writer, giving her readers good stories in each and every book. It is one of the stories where the characters feel real, genuine and raw. There is enough going on within the story and it kept my interest and kept me turning the pages. I thought it was a great continuation in the series and I am looking forward to see where else this series takes us.

  • mrsmommybooknerdSQEEEL! I love @saracshepard - she writes #books that any #reader will devour!!! I have #noshelfcontrolwhen it comes to her books. #theelizas is her #newrelease and I could not be more excited that @booksparks has this amazing line up for #springreading !!! I am diving into this one today!!! About the book: New York Times bestselling author of Pretty Little Liars Sara Shepard makes her mark on adult fiction with this Hitchcockian double narrative composed of lies, false memories, and a protagonist who must uncover the truth for survival.
Her novel is completely fictional, isn’t it?
The deeper Eliza goes into her investigation while struggling with memory loss, the closer her life starts to resemble her novel, until the line between reality and fiction starts to blur and she can no longer tell where her protagonist’s life ends and hers begins.
Fans of Pretty Little Liars, S.J. Watson’s Before I Go to Sleep, and Ruth Ware’s The Woman in Cabin 10 will be drawn to the drama of feeling like no one is on your side, the high tension of not knowing who you can trust, the hair-raising truths hidden among lies, and a faceless, nameless presence controlling Eliza’s life from the shadows.
