Showcase: Perception by Lee Strauss

About the book:  Seventeen year old Zoe Vanderveen is a GAP—a genetically altered person.  She lives in the security of a walled city on prime water-front property along side other equally beautiful people with extended life spans.

Her brother Liam is missing.

Noah Brody is a natural who lives on the outside.  He leads protests against the GAPs and detests the widening chasm they’ve created between those who have and those who don’t.  He doesn’t like girls like Zoe and he has good reason not to like her specifically.

Zoe’s carefree life takes a traumatic turn.  She’s in trouble and it turns out that Noah, the last guy on earth she should trust, is the only one who can help her.

PERCEPTION is a ( SF/mystery/romance) Young Adult novel that takes place in the not too distant future in a world changed by climate extremes, natural disasters and impending wars, and where scientific breakthroughs cause class divisions—both financially and philosophically.  It explores the clash between faith and science and how differences can separate us as enemies or alliance us together. And in some cases, even in the midst of betrayal and personal crisis, there’s room to fall in love.

Q.  What inspires your writing?

Life, reading, documentaries, the ordinary and the extraordinary.

Q.  What is your favorite thing about being an author?

I get to work in my pajamas.

Q.  What is the toughest part of being an author?

Wow, I’m finding this hard to answer. I love being an author. I suppose sitting on my butt for long periods of time.

Q.  If you could not be author, what would you do/be?

Hmm, also hard to answer. I’m glad I don’t have to figure that one out.

Q.  What would the story of your life be entitled?

The adventures of Elle.

Q.  What is your favorite book of all time?

Pride and Prejudice.

Q.  What is your favorite season?

Summer, but it’s never long enough where I live.

Q.  What inspired your book cover(s)?  Or what is your favorite book cover and why?

My daughter came up with idea to use the infinity symbol since the quest for eternal life is a strong theme in Perception. It was my idea to use the rain storm since it’s a plot point in the book. Dale Pease of Walking Stick Books put it all together.

Q.  Are you working on something new?

I’m always working on something and at the moment I’m juggling work on three books due to be released this fall. My ancient Rome novelette trilogy, JARS OF CLAY, will launch over three weeks in October. PLAYING WITH MATCHES, a story about a boy who grows up in Hitler Youth is releasing in November.

Q.  Anything you want to say to followers of this blog or those that are just stopping by.

Thanks so much for taking the time to read about my newest book!
