The Baby Wren and the Great Gift, written by bestselling author Sally Lloyd-Jones and illustrated by Jen Corace, is a celebration of all the wonderful gifts God has given us. The tiny wren marvels at the incredible creatures around her, all the while wishing she had a special gift to share. As she takes in the beauty of the world around her, she discovers a unique talent that’s been inside her all along.

I’m a Brit who came to the States in 1989. Just for a year or two.
I’m still here.
This tells you how much I know.
But I do know that I was born in Kampala, Uganda and raised in East, and West Africa and at a boarding school in the New Forest, (which I also know is nothing of the sort—it’s very old. It had Charles I in it. How new can it be?).
The first book I ever read all the way through was ‘The Complete Nonsense’by Edward Lear.
Things have not been the same since.

Also, I get to have the best job in the world—writing stories. And I get to work for the best bosses in the world—children. I am very grateful.

This book is a gorgeous celebration of all the ways we are truly blessed.  Baby Wren wants to be great, but only sees all the ways the other animals are better.  It is this discouragement that leads Baby Wren on a beautiful journey of self discovery.  Told in a way that sings to the reader this book captures both the heart and the soul.

Baby Wren and the Great Gifts is about looking into ourselves to find the greatness that we all have waiting to be discovered.  I loved the repeating prose and the illustrations are breathtaking!  The water color like pictures have perfect pops of colors.  There is such attention to detail that the reader can easily get lost in the story even without the words.  When you combine the words and the pictures the story is magic.  Plus, I am a true lover of birds and fell in love with Baby Wren due to the sheer joy I felt when looking at it.  Baby Wren is adorable and there is an innocence about her that any adult or child can relate to.

I feel like this book can also be viewed as the gifts that we are all given in the form of natures, from the birds in the colorful sky, to fish and the water ways they swim through, to the flowers and bugs, to the mighty canyons and mountains.  That if we just take a moment to look we are surrounded by endless gift.  This book is very moving and I rate it 5 stars.
