When Good Friends Go Bad by Ellie Campbell, Plus How To Survive Your Sister and Looking for La La

When Good Friends Go Bad

Can You Ever Learn to Forgive and Forget?

All through school, tomboy Jen, snobby Georgina, hippy Meg and gentle Rowan, were inseparable. Until, that is, the unfortunate consequences of a childish prank tore them apart. As adults an attempted reunion went disastrously wrong. Rowan failed to appear. Meg behaved outrageously and - sharpest cut of all - Jen discovered just how deeply Georgina had betrayed her.
So now, a mother herself, in the midst of divorce, the last thing Jen needs is a call from Meg. Or is it? Will Meg's strange mission to track down the missing Rowan re-open old wounds or is it a chance to heal the rift - or to recover Jen's never-forgotten, first true love? As their quest unearths secrets and feelings best left buried, Jen, Meg and Georgina will be tested on love, loyalty, and friendship, discover the truth about Rowan - and wake a danger that threatens them all.

My Thoughts:
What a roller coaster!  Friendship take on all forms throughout time, they ebb and flow.   When Meg gets a hold of Jen and Georgina telling them that Rowan is in trouble a search begins.  With twists and turns this novel is adventure of friendship, truth and loves lost and found!!!  Not be be missed 4 stars!

How To Survive Your Sisters

A wonderfully warm and witty debut novel about family secrets and sibling rivalry.

The four MacLeod sisters are no strangers to sisterly rivalry and with one of them about to be married, there are bound to be fireworks. Perfectionist Natalie wants the 'wedding of the year'. Harassed mother, Milly, just wishes her bridesmaid's dress wasn't the size of a tent. Career-obsessed Avril secretly moons over a married man and world traveler, Hazel, the youngest, yearns to be taken seriously. Forced together for the first time in years, and with an unexpected guest stirring up old resentments, squabbles are inevitable. But when tragedy strikes things really fly apart - as some shocking skeletons emerge rattling from the crowded MacLeod closet..

My Thoughts:
Part of what makes a book great is the characters, and How TO Survive Your Sister has so many.  They are flawed and funny.  There was an amazing voice that each sister had and it was interesting following all of them.  In addition, it had a great storyline, that flowed well and their was true sense of authenticity in the writing!!  4 stars!

Looking for La La

In a recent survey 65% of mothers admitted feeling undervalued, over-criticised and constantly tired.

Cathy is no exception. Her dull, uneventful days as a stay at home, mother of two, are radically transformed however with the arrival of a heavily lipsticked postcard addressed to husband, Declan. Who is the mysterious La La? Could Declan really be having an affair? And is Cathy actually being stalked?

Whatever – it will definitely prove riveting gossip for the Tuesday Twice Monthlies, Cathy’s 'Mothers Restaurant Research’ group where scandal flows as recklessly as the wine. But what starts as a light-hearted investigation with best friend Raz, soon turns into something much more sinister.

With a possible murderer on the scene, a sexy admirer igniting long-forgotten sparks, and all her friends hiding secrets, it’s not only Cathy’s marriage that’s in jeopardy. Add in the scheming antics of Declan’s new assistant, the stress of organising the school Save The Toilet’s dance and the stage is set for a dangerous showdown and some very unsettling, possibly deadly, revelations.

My Thoughts:
Who the heck is La La and why on earth is she making Cathy's life hellishly unbearable? Go on an amazingly funny, brilliant and entertaining ride with Cathy (the neurotic and humorous main character) and her crazy cast of friends and neighbors! Looking for La La is so much more than British Romantic Comedy at it's best, but also a story about the fractures of marriage, facing ones own insecurities and learning to find happiness within one's life! I really enjoyed this book.  I recommend this book and rate it 4 stars!
