When Bruce gets home from a southern migration trip with his goslings, he is tired. He is grumpy. And he is definitely not in the mood to share his home with the trio of mice who have turned his den into a hotel.
There's a possum pillow fight wreaking havoc in one room, a fox luring guests into a stew in the kitchen, and a snuggly crew of critters hogging the bed. Bruce growls and grumbles and tries to throw them all out, but the entrepreneurial mice just can't take a hint. Bruce is in a little over his head, especially once the goslings join the staff. Will this grumpy bear ever get his quiet, peaceful den back to himself?

MY THOUGHTS:
I was not sure if Higgins could create another story that touched me like Mother Bruce, but alas he did. I just adore this grumpy, but darling and charming bear. The illustrations really capture the story and give you the feel of the characters emotions, innocence and love for each other. I seriously smiled all the way through this book. It is sheer delight from cover to cover. The animals and their antics in this book are so sweet and clever and seeing Bruce negotiate through all of it was so fun. Just looking at the cover art makes my heart smile. Under the book cover there are also some illustrated surprises, such an amazing way to capture the reader attention through visual brilliance. Another 5 star hit!!!
Bruce the bear likes to keep to himself. That, and eat eggs. But when his hard-boiled goose eggs turn out to be real, live goslings, he starts to lose his appetite. And even worse, the goslings are convinced he's their mother. Bruce tries to get the geese to go south, but he can't seem to rid himself of his new companions. What's a bear to do?
MY THOUGHTS:
I am in love with this book! It is both heart warming and adorable, silly and goofy, serious and sweet! It has everything that both adults and kids will love!! I found that Mother Bruce was such an original and wonderful story about unlikely love between a grumpy and hungry bear and some adoring sweet goslings! I cannot wait to share this book in all my classes and tell everyone I know about this FANTASTIC book! It is perfect for Thanksgiving! It may become our newest tradition to read this book on Thanksgiving and discuss the crazy thing called LOVE!! P.S. the illustrations are so beautiful and detailed. They take the reader into the the story and capture the emotions of the characters so perfectly! So cute! I cannot take all that cuteness!
