Pirate Blunderbeard: Worst. Pirate. Ever.
by Amy Sparkes, illustrated by Ben Cort

Releases: 3/12/19

Can the worst pirate ever win the Pirate of the Year Award…?
Mum is making me take part in the stupid Pirate of the Year Award. All I have to do is fight an enormous sea monster, (doom), beat my oh-so-brilliant brother at something (please please please) and find the legendary treasure that no one has ever found EVER in the history of EVER (easy peasy, then). Wish me luck! PirateBlunderbeard.
Blunderbeard might be the worst pirate ever but he’s also the funniest – laugh-out-loud fun for young readers of 7+
Author Amy Sparkes writes for children of all ages. Her picture books have been shortlisted for several book awards, including the Roald Dahl Funny Prize 2013 and the Booktrust Best Books Awards 2014.

#FirstLine ~ Dreamed last night that I was chased by goldfish with gigantic false teeth that turned into my mom and ate all my cupcakes.

A cute chapter book that will entertain kids four hours. The story is funny and one that kids can relate too (especially if they have a sibling). It has some twists and turns and it not predictable, rather more of an adventure. The illustrations throughout are clever and add much to this original story.

We were so young when it all happened--just 13-year-olds making the most of the long, hot, lazy days of summer, thinking we had the world at our feet. That was us--me, Fat Bobby, Jim, and Tara--the four members of the Outsiders’ Club. The day we found a burnt-out car in the woods was the day everything changed. Cold, hard cash in the front seat and a body in the trunk. It started as a mystery we were desperate to solve. Then the Collector arrived. He knew we had found his secret, and suddenly, our summer of innocence turned into the stuff of nightmares.

#FirstLine ~ This is the night.

This book was quite fast paced and quite thrilling. I devoured it nearly in one day. I loved that it was unlike other books in this genre. It was edgy and had me on the roller-coaster of emotions. I can see this book becoming a movie because it has all the great component that make a great book to film adaptation. It has some twists and a few turns I did not see coming, so that was very exciting. I recommend this read to those who desire a read that will get their heart racing and get them burning through the pages of an engaging read!

A witty celebration of the tiny tardigrade, a microscopic creature that looks like a bear

Living in a tiny house has one huge drawback--no space for pets. So when a little girl's parents announce that it's time for the family to simplify, downsizing from a huge home in the city to a tiny house in the woods, it's quite a blow--after all, she's grown quite fond of her pet poodles, cats, tarantula, snake, hedgehogs, mice, birds, fish, octopus, rabbits, pony, pig, and turtles. Fortunately, she finds them all good homes, and she has to admit that she enjoys her new simpler life.
There's just one thing: She still really wants just one pet.
At first the answer is no. But using a little scientific savvy, she finds one that could be just the right fit--how could anyone turn down a pet smaller than an ant's eye that doesn't need special food or toys or walking, and will always be small enough to squeeze into their home, no matter how much they downsize?
Jessie Hartland creatively blends fantasy and science in a far-out story that bursts with exuberance. Her whimsical art celebrates one very thoughtful, persistent little girl and introduces readers to the tiny tardigrade, with its fascinating array of survival skills.

#FirstLine ~ The sun still blasts through the restaurant windows at seven pm, showcasing dust on the red plastic table cloths and monochrome movie stars on the walls.

I had a hard time putting this book down because it was paced really well, had compelling characters and a story that held my interest from cover to cover. It was one of those stories that was both thrilling and made your heart race. It was so original and a story I would not soon forget. A great book for book clubs!
