Blog Tour: Jack Templer Monster Hunter Trailer

Watch the amazing book trailer here!!!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:  Jeff Gunhus grew up in Cyprus, Greece, and Saudi Arabia where there was a distinct lack of television. He quickly found books were the gateway to incredible adventures, fascinating characters and unbelievable discoveries. Now, with five children of his own (all who watch too much television, in his opinion), he has enjoyed revisiting his old books and reliving those adventures all over again.

Jack Templar Monster Hunter
Book Summary:  Orphan Jack Templar has no memory of his parents and only the smallest details from his Aunt Sophie about how they died. The day before Jack's fourteenth birthday, things start to change for him. At first it's great: A sudden new strength helps him defend his nose-picking friend "T-Rex" from the school bully, and even his crush, Cindy Adams, takes notice. But then a mysterious girl named Eva arrives and tells him two facts that will change his life forever. First, that he's the descendent of a long line of monster hunters and he's destined to be in the family business. Second, that there's a truce between man and monster that children are off-limits...until their fourteenth birthday! Jack has only one day before hundreds of monsters will descend on his little town of Sunnyvale and try to kill him.

As if that weren't enough, things get even more complicated when Jack discovers that the Lord of the Creach (as the monsters are collectively known) holds a personal grudge against him and will do anything to see that Jack has a slow and painful death. To stay alive and save his friends, Jack will have to battle werewolves, vampires, harpies, trolls, zombies and more. But perhaps the most dangerous thing he must face is the truth about his past. Why do the other hunters call him the last Templar? Why do they whisper that he may be the "One?" Why do the monsters want him dead so badly? Even as these questions plague him, he quickly discovers survival is his new full-time job and that in the world of monster hunters, nothing is really what it seems.

All I Want For Christmas...Is A Book?

With Christmas just around the corner, thoughts of every young person turn to the
important central theme of the season...what am I gonna get for Christmas?

As a father of five ranging in ages from twelve to two, I work hard in my role as
family propagandist-in-chief to direct my kids during this season toward acts of
charity, thoughts of family bonding and, as the song says, goodwill toward men. And
it works. If working is defined as my kids being able to tell you what the holiday is
supposed to be about.

But let's face it. Even in religious homes, the kid Christmas experience is all about
waking up to presents under a tree and hoping Santa got it right that year. And
when I find myself tut-tutting my brood’s mania for presents, I remind myself I was
exactly the same way when I was a kid.

I grew up overseas from the age of five to twelve as my father's business took us
to Greece, Cyprus and Saudi Arabia. As any kid can tell you, these are the golden
Christmas-present years. A triple whammy of parents, grandparents and Santa!
Toys galore. Good ones too. And the number of sweaters and socks is kept to a
minimum. Good times indeed.

But I found out later that the presents under our tree overseas was a little different
than my cousins back in the States. Stores around us didn't carry the newest
electronic gizmos, so we didn't even know they existed. And since we didn't
really have TV outside of the few British programs that played late at night, the
information blackout was complete. So, with the latest Atari and Ninetendo games
off the table, we found ourselves with more traditional toys...and an abundance of
books under our tree.

And what books they were. An entire new world arrived one Christmas by way
of J.R.R Tolkien’s Lord Of The Rings. Another Christmas, we left Middle Earth and
walked through the wardrobe into C.S. Lewis's Narnia. Then we drifted down the
Mississippi with Mark Twain, went to the bottom of the sea and journeyed to the
center of the Earth with Jules Verne. Willard Price's animal adventures kept me up
reading well past my bedtime on many nights. Alan Gardner’s The Weirdstone of
Brisingamen impacted me so much that I adopted the pen name Cadellin Shield for
my early teenage writing.

So many different worlds to experience, so many different adventures, and not a
single battery, AC adaptor or controller needed!

Certainly many families today have this same focus on books, but I’ve noticed in my
circle of friends that the impulse to reach for the newest game title for their kids
is much stronger than the call of the bookstore. When asked about it, they typical
answer is that they would love to buy more books, but the kids just don’t seem that
into reading. New generation and all that.

Two words. Harry. Potter.

The Harry Potter phenomenon of kids lining up overnight for a book dispelled the
idea that attention spans had somehow changed for a generation of computer-
savy youngsters. The excitement around Percy Jackson, the Hunger Games, Mortal
Instruments and many other new series remind us that kids will devour a great
book just as well as a new X-box game or a TV-series.

This is because nothing can transport you into another world more completely than
a well-written book.

Give a great book to a young reader this Christmas. Read it with them to help make
those all-important first steps into the new world. Once they're hooked, stand back
and watch as they devour the story. It's a good reminder that some of the very best
experiences do not require batteries and a screen.

Except maybe for your Kindle.
