December 6, 2016 – Size Matters by Cathryn Novak
Course Title: Food & Relationships Studies
Department: Culinary Fiction
Description: Lexie Alexander is the personal chef to John Frederick. He’s rich, intelligent, reclusive, very large, and lives to eat. But when a major medical crisis turns the household upside down it threatens the special bonds they’ve formed with each other.

This book was a sweet treat.  I loved that it was only 135 pages because I could sit down and devour it in one sitting.  I loved the main character and felt like she was very well developed, as was the story itself.  Even though it was small in size, but it was big in heart.  A great read and one that will most likely leave the reader wanting more.

#FirstLine ~ John Frederick is propped up in bed, wrapped in what, in more formal times, would have been called a dressing gown.

#MMBBR #Review A Dog's Purpose: A Novel for Humans by @wbrucecameron

A Dog’s Purpose―which spent a year on the New York Times Best Seller list―is heading to the big screen! Based on the beloved bestselling novel by W. Bruce Cameron, A Dog’s Purpose, from director Lasse Hallström (The Cider House RulesDear JohnThe 100-Foot Journey), shares the soulful and surprising story of one devoted dog (voiced by Josh Gad) who finds the meaning of his own existence through the lives of the humans he teaches to laugh and love. The family film told from the dog’s perspective also stars Britt Robertson, KJ Apa, John Ortiz, Peggy Lipton, Juliet Rylance, Luke Kirby, Pooch Hall and Dennis Quaid. A Dog’s Purpose is produced by Gavin Polone (Zombieland, TV’s Gilmore Girls). The film from Amblin Entertainment and Walden Media will be distributed by Universal Pictures. Screenplay by W. Bruce Cameron & Cathryn Michon and Audrey Wells and Maya Forbes & Wally Wolodarsky.
Heartwarming, insightful, and often laugh-out-loud funny, A Dog's Purpose is not only the emotional and hilarious story of a dog's many lives, but also a dog's-eye commentary on human relationships and the unbreakable bonds between man and man's best friend. This moving and beautifully crafted story teaches us that love never dies, that our true friends are always with us, and that every creature on earth is born with a purpose.
Bailey's story continues in A Dog's Journey, the charming New York Times and USA Today bestselling direct sequel to A Dog's Purpose.

#MMBBR #Review A Lowcountry Christmas by @maryalicemonroe @GalleryBooks

A wounded warrior and his younger brother discover the true meaning of Christmas in this timeless story of family bonds.

As far as ten-year-old Miller McClellan is concerned, it’s the worst Christmas ever. His father’s shrimp boat is docked, his mother is working two jobs, and with finances strained, Miller is told they can’t afford the dog he desperately wants. “Your brother’s return from war is our family’s gift,” his parents tell him. But when Taylor returns with PTSD, family strains darken the holidays.

Then Taylor’s service dog arrives—a large black Labrador/Great Dane named Thor. His brother even got the dog! When Miller goes out on Christmas Eve with his father’s axe, determined to get his family the tree they can't afford, he takes the dog for company—but accidentally winds up lost in the wild forest. The splintered family must come together to rediscover their strengths, family bond, and the true meaning of Christmas.

I love Christmas books!  They are one of my most favorite things ever!  They make my heart happy on cold, wintry days before the holiday rush! A Lowcountry Christmas is book five in the Lowcountry Summer series, but it's a prequel and can be read as a stand-alone.  I have not read many of the other books in this series and that caused no problems with the readability of the story!  It was a feel good story, in an amazing setting with characters that you can relate to.  There was something so special about this story and it really gave me the feels.  I highly recommend this book for your holiday reading!

#MMBBR #Review Say Goodbye for Now by @cryanhyde #LakeUnionPublishing

“Catherine Ryan Hyde delivers once again with this feel-good story guaranteed to be a hit…” —Redbook
On an isolated Texas ranch, Dr. Lucy cares for abandoned animals. The solitude allows her to avoid the people and places that remind her of the past. Not that any of the townsfolk care. In 1959, no one is interested in a woman doctor. Nor are they welcoming Calvin and Justin Bell, a newly arrived African American father and son.
When Pete Solomon, a neglected twelve-year-old boy, and Justin bring a wounded wolf-dog hybrid to Dr. Lucy, the outcasts soon find refuge in one another. Lucy never thought she’d make connections again, never mind fall in love. Pete never imagined he’d find friends as loyal as Justin and the dog. But these four people aren’t allowed to be friends, much less a family, when the whole town turns violently against them.
With heavy hearts, Dr. Lucy and Pete say goodbye to Calvin and Justin. But through the years they keep hope alive…waiting for the world to catch up with them.

Another brilliant book by a very talented writer that keeps giving us stories that we cannot put down!  Say Goodbye for Now was another book of hers that I was completely engrossed by.  It kept me engaged and turning pages.  She mixes characters, both human and four legged into a story that warms the heart, gives back hope and promise in the world.  I highly recommend this book and know for certain it would be a book club hit!
