#MMBBR #Showcase Emma G. Loves Boyz by Taro Meyer

Emma G. Loves Boyz - A True Love Journal is the first book in the new Tween Girl Series by Taro Meyer - the exuberant journal of a star-struck fan who vows to stop at nothing - not even doing chores! - for a chance to see her favorite boy band perform live.

Q.  What inspires your writing?

People, especially young people. Their openness to life,

eagerness to learn about the world, their creativity and their sense of possibility

is so engaging.

Q.  What is your favorite thing about being a writer?

Creating characters that come to life and connect to the reader.

Q.  What is the toughest part of being a writer?

Staying at it, even when you feel like you don’t have a thought.

Q.  If you could not be a writer, what would you do/be?

I came to writing later in my career. I was an actor and singer first,

working in Broadway theater, nightclubs, and on television.

I subsequently became an audiobook producer/director and co-

produced a hit rock Christmas show, Trans-Siberian Orchestra. I love

working with actors to achieve their best performance so if I wasn’t

writing, I’d be very happy producing and directing.

Q.  What would the story of your life be entitled?

NEVER EVER STOP!!!

Q.  What is your favorite book of all time?

My absolute favorite is Dr. Seuss’s HORTON HATCHES THE EGG!!!

It’s got everything: action, challenge, commitment, courage, kindness and

most importantly, unconditional love. And it all rhymes! I loved it as a child

and began reading it to my daughter when she was just a few weeks old so

she’d have the messages of that book deep in her heart.

Q.  Which character from ANY book are you most like?

I would have liked to have been Margaret Mead in her anthropological

books like Coming of Age in Samoa. I received my college degree in

anthropology and studying other cultures was both intellectually

exciting and romantic. I did imagine myself researching in distant

parts of the world– but the arts took over.

Q.  What character from all of your book are you most like?

I’m actually a lot like Emma, a little over the top, a little insecure, and I

never ever give up, no matter the obstacles.

Q.  Which book would you love to take a weekend vacation inside of?

Seeing Voices, by Dr. Oliver Saks. It’s a powerful book about the

history and world of the deaf. I’m very “auditorially” geared, I sing, I

produced audiobooks, I love sound. Dr. Saks’ description of the

multi-dimensionality of signing and the visual intelligence that

accompanies it, is so evocative, it would be great to be able to

experience that for a weekend.

Q.  What is your favorite season?

Spring. The days are getting longer, the sun is brighter, fresh cut

grass smells like heaven. In spring, it feels like everything good is

possible.

Q.  What inspired your book cover(s)?  Or what is your favorite book cover and

why?

Music Concerts! The image of a star up on stage is iconic and a little

heroic, especially to young people. Emma G. is in love with a pop

star, so it was a natural to have the cover reflect that excitement.

Q.  Tell me something funny that happened while on a book tour or while

promoting your book.

We’ve just begun promoting the book, I can’t wait for the funny

stuff to start!

Q.  Are you working on something new?

The next Emma G. Loves Boyz book. And I’m also editing a wonderful new

collection of children’s stories – Grandpa Bernie’s Bedtime Stories –

by a 92-year-old first-time author.

Q.  Anything you want to say to followers of this blog or those that are just

stopping by?

While Emma G. Loves Boyz was written for tweens, I’ve been thrilled

to get responses from women who say the book brings them back to

a time when they were young, experiencing their first crushes, loving a pop

star, remembering the joy of intense relationships between friends, and the

sense that everything that happens is life changing. So even if you’re no

longer a ‘tween, the book may give you a little nostalgia for a wonderful

time of life, and it’s something you can share with your daughters.
